I picked her up from the crib and almost instantly, she stopped crying. I'm really hesitant to grab her right away when she cries in her crib. I don't want it to become a habit and knowing that kids DO wake up several times a night, it is important for Ellie to be able to go back to sleep on her own so we are all refreshed in the mornings.
So I read some info online from "experts" and other moms on the message boards in hopes I would be able to find some answers. Here's what they had to say...
- a teething toddler will be cranky, clingy, refuse to nap
- a "terrible two" toddler will be cranky, clingy, refuse to nap
- a toddler going through growth spurt will be cranky, clingy, may refuse to nap
- a toddler ready to give up a nap will refuse to nap
Thank you "professors" for those astounding observations.
Tomorrow's another day. Poor Ellie.

well, at least come Sunday we'll be able to see both mother and daughter with matching bags under the eyes...

sorry to hear ellie isn't napping well...it's so hard when little ones can't tell us exactly what's going on so we can come up with a better solution...i know a lot of my difficulties w/ cadence have been due to teething (fussiness, refusing to eat, etc), so i give her teething tablets...they're homeopathic and you can get them probably at walgreens or jewel...she always seems to improve when i give her those...you may have already tried those, but i thought i'd mention it...
two weeks without proper naps must be taking a toll on both of you...the other thing i was thinking of is whether you may be exhibiting anxiety about ellie's naps which she may be picking up on...i just read a study about 12 month olds and their ability to pick up on emotions exhibited by others either around them or even on TV...
whatever the case may be, don't despair...little ones can be so unpredictable, and each one is so different...ellie is lucky to have such a devoted and fun mom, and this non-napping phase will pass...hopefully sooner than later for both your sakes!
